Wilmington Wedding | PJ & Kasey

“I’ll never forget the first time you looked at me and how I fell in love.”

PJ and Kasey have been together for five years and are such a lovely couple.

In early summer, I took their engagement photos, and we endured the intense heat that day. For their wedding, we weren’t concerned about heat… we were concerned about a pending thunderstorm.

Fast track to October 7, 2017. The BIG day.

The weather that day called for a thunderstorm. When I arrived, it started to sprinkle within 15 minutes. PJ and Kasey (and their families) were prepared though. They had tents set up adjacent to barns. Mums, hay bales and pumpkins decorated the ceremony and reception area. It was a beautiful setup. They even bought clear umbrellas for the bride, groom and bridal party to use. Rain wasn’t going to slow us down!

After a quick switch of locations for the ceremony due to standing water, everything went off without a hitch. These families all pulled together to move decorations and the archway. You would never know it was supposed to take place anywhere else.

And… perfect timing… the weather cleared up shortly after the ceremony for us to be able to capture photos outside! We brought out the umbrellas while it still sprinkled. They didn’t mind getting wet after the ceremony. Neither did I. So we did. ūüôā

When the rainbow popped out for a brief moment before sundown, it was just icing on the already delicious cake.

This group knew how to have a good time! When it came time for dancing, I didn’t have to worry about an empty dance floor. From the sounds of it, their party went late into the evening… or perhaps early in the morning would be a better description!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Mendietta! May you have a lifetime of happiness!

Kankakee Wedding | Zack & Jessica

“In you, I’ve found the love of my life and my closest, truest friend.”

Zack and Jessica are a genuine and adorable couple. Hands down.

I first met these two last year when I took their engagement photos. We battled through swarms of mosquitos at the time to get some beautiful images.

Fast forward to September 2, 2017. The BIG day.

My second shooter and I met up Saturday morning at the X-Line Sportsman Club in Kankakee. Zack and his groomsmen hung out outside while Jessica and her bridesmaids got ready inside.

The two exchanged letters prior to their first look. None of us know how the letters read, but judging by their expressions, I think they both knocked it out of the park!

When it was time for the first look, I positioned Zack outside in preparation. He was so excited to see Jess, as was she to see him. She walked across the grass to where he stood, lightly tapped his shoulder and he turned to see his beautiful bride. After snapping away for several photos, we let the two have some moments to themselves to embrace the day and each other. This is always one of my favorite experiences during the wedding day… witnessing the first time the couple sees each other on the big day! ‚̧

The ceremony and reception went off without a hitch, and I think it is safe to say that everyone had a fabulous time!

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Stone! May you have a lifetime of happiness!

2016 | Year in Review

2016 has been a busy year to say the least!¬†My year started out a crazy one, working a full time job, part time job and also doing photography. Fortunately by¬†spring, one job came to a conclusion, and I was able to drop down to just the full time job and my photography business. I took advantage of my newly found “free time” to focus on photography and marketing strategies.

With that being said, 2016 has been a year of many changes for my photography business. I launched a new website, photowhimsybymegan.com, (thanks for visiting!) and expanded my presence on social media. I enjoy learning new things, so I have been developing the site myself and have made it a goal of 2017 to fine-tune and continue to develop my online presence.

Professional Highlights of 2016:

  • Photo Whimsy by Megan has been verified by Google and Yelp as a business¬†and is¬†now searchable!
  • Since July 2016, I have published 21 blog posts and 3 YouTube videos.
  • My Facebook likes have grown to 406 (and counting).
  • I can be found on Facebook, YouTube, Yelp, Google+ and Pinterest.

Personal Highlights of 2016:

  • My husband (Shane) and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in June!
  • Shane, my dog (Santo) and I moved to a new house in the spring and have had the adventures of turning that house into our home!
  • We managed to travel a bit this year as well, despite having opposite schedules and varying vacation times to work with. Most notably, we visited Nashville, Tennessee and Door County, Wisconsin for the first time!
  • Three of my friends got married this year. I actually photographed¬†two of the three.
  • Three¬†of my friends had babies. I photographed each of those cuties.
  • ¬†One of my nieces and one of my nephews graduated from high school. Their¬†senior sessions were photographed in 2015.¬†
  • The Chicago Cubs won the World Series! (What a way to conclude the highlights!)

Wishing you and yours a Happy and Healthy New Year! We’ll see you in 2017!

Monee Wedding | Gil & Taylor

“Love one another.¬†Forgive each other.¬†Pray together.

Bear each others burdens.¬†Count your blessings.¬†Never give up.”

Gil and Taylor were married on October 22 in a beautiful outdoor ceremony held at the home of Gil’s parents.

It couldn’t have¬†been a nicer day. The sun was shining. The decorations were in place. The bride and groom were dressed in their finest. Family and friends were present to celebrate the joyous occasion.

I started my day with Taylor and her bridesmaids while they had their hair and makeup done¬†and stayed through the reception. Upon arriving at the ceremony site, all I can say is that it was gorgeous. They had an archway welcoming guests to the backyard where the ceremony and reception were to be held. A sign read “The Fairytale Begins This Way.” How true that sign was!

From a touching first look between Taylor and her father to watching Taylor read a letter from Gil before the ceremony, love and happiness were in the air for sure!

I want to extend the warmest of congratulations to Gil and Taylor. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and fun! You were a wonderful couple to work with, and you had a PERFECT day!  Please enjoy a glimpse into that perfect day with the following video.

Sandwich Wedding | Bevan & Corinne

Corinne and I met¬†during our¬†freshman year of college at North Central in Naperville. We lived on the same floor in Rall Hall and quickly became good friends. After I transferred to University of St. Francis in Joliet, I did my best to maintain the friendships that were created that freshmen year. While we don’t see each other often, when we do, we pick up right where we left off. I couldn’t ask for a better group of friends!

Corinne and Bevan started dating after I left North Central. We were all so excited when they got engaged… and even more excited when they picked a date to get married! They were married on Sunday, July 24, 2016, in the beautiful backyard of a neighbor in Sandwich, IL. I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect setting and style for their wedding. It was casual with¬†special touches and fit the couple’s personalities perfectly!

Most weddings are remembered for being beautiful, but theirs will also be remembered for how hot the day was! I remember driving into Sandwich and seeing the temperature on the Walgreens sign РРР103! Despite the intense heat and humidity, the backyard was filled with smiling faces, all in support of the love between these two wonderful people!

Congratulations Bevan and Corinne! May you have a lifetime of happiness!

Downers Grove Wedding | Christian & Mary

I have known Mary for my entire life, so I was especially excited when she approached me about photographing her wedding. Mary and I grew up down the road from each other and have been long-time friends. When she met Christian at Saint Xavier University, and then when I ultimately met Christian, I knew she had found her perfect match.

Mary and Christian were married on May 14 at the American Legion Post 80 in Downers Grove, Illinois, amongst family and friends. We traveled to Saint Xavier University, where both the bride and groom attended college, for photos of the bridal party and of the bride and groom.
