Engagement | Cory & Ashley

“Love is about finding the one person who makes your heart complete. Who makes you a better person than you ever dreamed you could be.”

These two are so sweet together, and I am so appreciative to them for being patient with me during our session. I’m not as limber in my third trimester of pregnancy!

Ashley and Cory had me come to their property for their session, and HOLY COW! Check out the oasis they have in their backyard! It was beautiful! This location was extra special for them because Cory proposed to Ashley back there… way back there! He took her to the far edge of their property, walking through deep snow this past winter, to get down on one knee and propose. Of course she said YES! Now this couple prepares for a May 2019 wedding, and I cannot wait to be a part of it as well!

Congratulations to this awesome, loving couple! I’m so looking forward to next May!

Engagement | Anthony & Haley

“The lovers continue in their endless embrace, in their burning passion, without letting go…”

This was an extra special engagement session for me. Haley is my oldest niece. This makes me feel old in many regards and yet, so incredibly excited for her and the rest of my nieces and nephews as they continue to get older.

Anthony proposed while the two of them vacationed in Mexico this winter. While she may have known it was coming, it was still very special. And her ring… let’s just say Anthony did a phenomenal job!

Haley and Anthony met while in college at West Virginia University. They are a perfect match and compliment each other so well. The two traveled from Texas up to Illinois for this engagement session (and some other wedding planning). Needless to say, the two were quite cold in our Illinois winter having been used to Texas weather for awhile now.

They plan a September wedding.

Engagement | Alec & Libby

“You are my piece of paradise.”

The Allerton Park & Recreation Center, owned by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is on the National Register of Historic Places, was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as one of 150 Great Places in Illinois and is a designated National Natural Landmark.

Located in Monticello, Illinois, the Park is an expansive wooded area featuring walking trails, sculpture gardens, a gorgeous mansion and reflecting pond.

I hadn’t heard of Allerton Park prior to this engagement session, but a quick Google search told me that I needed to be excited! It did not disappoint! In fact, I plan to return in the spring or summer with my husband and dog to explore some more. What a place!

We started our session inside the mansion and eventually moved outside (enduring the chilly weather). Alec and Libby were great! It wasn’t hard to get sincere expressions out of them. They kept each other laughing and smiling the whole time.

I want to wish them the best of luck in their wedding planning. I look forward to their November wedding this year.

Engagement | Travis & Amber

“I knew when I first met him; he would be my dork.”

Travis and Amber met online and had their first date in Hannibal, Missouri. At the time, she was a 911 dispatcher, and he was an art teacher. Amber recalled, “I knew when I first met him; he would be my dork.”

These two were absolutely adorable together, and their love for each other just beamed!

Now, one might wonder how they happened to come my way for their engagement session when I stated earlier that their first date was in Missouri. Well, Travis is from my hometown. We were actually in 4-H together growing up. I’m so happy for him that he found an amazing woman to spend his life with. It’s crazy to me though, and I still have to wrap my head around the fact, but we are both grown up and old enough to be doing “adult things” like having careers and getting married! Boy does time fly!

I couldn’t be happier for these two, and I wish them all the best. They were truly a fun (and surprising) couple. We had a great session… which took a turn for awesome when they pulled out pelican masks! As an art teacher, Travis wanted to do a few photos that were atypical and fun. It made my day!

They are planning a July 2018 wedding.

Engagement | Seth & Kara

“In all the world there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine.”

-Maya Angelou

With some help from her sisters, Seth surprised Kara last summer by proposing in front of some waterfalls in Wisconsin. I’m sure some happy tears were shed! It’s extra special that they were able to get some snapshots when it happened!

They are planning a July 1 wedding.

These two are quite the impressive couple. Seth is a firefighter with a demanding work schedule. Kara teaches while also attending grad school. Somehow they fit wedding planning into the mix too!

I’m so excited for both of them. They are an absolutely adorable couple, and the love they have for each other is so evident! I can’t wait for their wedding. It’s going to be perfect!

Engagement | PJ & Kasey

“He’s more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”  -Emily Bronte

I met up with PJ and Kasey at the Manhattan Round Barn on a relatively hot day. It was one of those days where you only really had to step outside to start sweating. They were troopers though. First off, they looked amazing. They took great direction, and they were laid back and easy to work with. What more could I ask for?!

Prior to scheduling, Kasey had mentioned to me that late afternoon was her favorite time of day, when the sun is just starting to set. Naturally, we set are session time for 7pm so we could capture that beautiful golden light! I love it too!

From the barn, itself, to the expansive green grass to the gazebo, the Round Barn location has so much to offer. It was a great spot for a rustic and nature-loving feel.

PJ proposed to Kasey last year, and they are planning an October 2017 wedding. I am very much looking forward to it!

Engagement sessions are so special. The couple has the chance to interact with a photographer prior to their wedding day, and often times, it is the couple’s first time working with a photographer. It is also a great opportunity to increase the variety in their wedding portfolio by having the session at a different location than their wedding.

2016 | Year in Review

2016 has been a busy year to say the least! My year started out a crazy one, working a full time job, part time job and also doing photography. Fortunately by spring, one job came to a conclusion, and I was able to drop down to just the full time job and my photography business. I took advantage of my newly found “free time” to focus on photography and marketing strategies.

With that being said, 2016 has been a year of many changes for my photography business. I launched a new website, photowhimsybymegan.com, (thanks for visiting!) and expanded my presence on social media. I enjoy learning new things, so I have been developing the site myself and have made it a goal of 2017 to fine-tune and continue to develop my online presence.

Professional Highlights of 2016:

  • Photo Whimsy by Megan has been verified by Google and Yelp as a business and is now searchable!
  • Since July 2016, I have published 21 blog posts and 3 YouTube videos.
  • My Facebook likes have grown to 406 (and counting).
  • I can be found on Facebook, YouTube, Yelp, Google+ and Pinterest.

Personal Highlights of 2016:

  • My husband (Shane) and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary in June!
  • Shane, my dog (Santo) and I moved to a new house in the spring and have had the adventures of turning that house into our home!
  • We managed to travel a bit this year as well, despite having opposite schedules and varying vacation times to work with. Most notably, we visited Nashville, Tennessee and Door County, Wisconsin for the first time!
  • Three of my friends got married this year. I actually photographed two of the three.
  • Three of my friends had babies. I photographed each of those cuties.
  •  One of my nieces and one of my nephews graduated from high school. Their senior sessions were photographed in 2015.
  • The Chicago Cubs won the World Series! (What a way to conclude the highlights!)

Wishing you and yours a Happy and Healthy New Year! We’ll see you in 2017!
